MacBook Air 13-inch M5

MacBook Air 13-inch M5 Price in Kenya — From KSh 165,000 | Fast Gadgets Kenya

The Fast Gadgets Verdict

The MacBook Air 13-inch M5 is the best MacBook Air available and the best everyday laptop money can buy in Kenya right now. The M5 chip is faster than the M4, Wi-Fi 7 gives you faster and more reliable wireless connections than Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6 is the newest wireless standard, and the base storage starts at 512GB — double what the M4 Air’s cheapest model offered at launch. The display, battery, fanless design, and physical build are essentially unchanged from the M4 — the M5 upgrades what is under the hood.

The honest positioning: this is an incremental upgrade over the M4 Air, not a revolutionary one. If you already own a MacBook Air M4 there is no compelling reason to upgrade. If you are buying a new laptop and choosing between the two — the M5 at KSh 165,000 without charger versus the M4 at KSh 145,000 — the KSh 20,000 difference buys a faster chip, Wi-Fi 7, and double the base storage. For a laptop you plan to use for five or more years, the M5 is the smarter long-term buy.

One important pricing note: The Fast Gadgets Kenya prices listed below are without a charger at the base prices. If you need the charger included, the with-charger prices are listed separately — budget for this before ordering.

Our rating — 9.5/10 for everyday laptop value. The best fanless portable laptop available in Kenya.

Right for You?

If you are buying your first MacBook, upgrading from an Intel Mac or an older M-series, or choosing between a MacBook Air and MacBook Pro — the Air M5 is the right laptop for the vast majority of buyers. Students, professionals, writers, designers for light to moderate work, developers for standard apps, and anyone who wants the best everyday laptop without the size and cost of the MacBook Pro — this is the answer. If your work involves sustained heavy rendering, large 4K exports that run for many minutes, or professional audio production — the MacBook Pro 14 M4 Pro at KSh 275,000 is the correct step up.

Note on charger: The without-charger price does not include a power adapter. If you do not already have a compatible USB-C or MagSafe 3 charger, factor in the additional KSh 8,000 cost for the with-charger variant.

About the Without-Charger Pricing — What You Need to Know

Fast Gadgets Kenya offers the MacBook Air M5 at two price points — with and without the charger. This is worth understanding clearly before ordering.

The MacBook Air M5 charges via MagSafe 3 or USB-C. If you already own a compatible USB-C charger — such as the Motorola TurboPower 68W reviewed on this site or any USB-C charger at 30W or above — you can charge the MacBook Air M5 without the Apple adapter. The MagSafe port and the Thunderbolt USB-C ports both accept charging.

If this is your first MacBook or you do not have a compatible USB-C charger, order the with-charger variant. The KSh 8,000 difference is the cost of the Apple charger included in the box.

The MacBook Air 13-inch M5 Chip — What Is Actually Different From M4

The Apple M5 chip improves on the M4 across every performance dimension — faster CPU performance cores, improved GPU for graphics and creative workloads, a more capable Neural Engine for on-device AI tasks, and higher memory bandwidth for moving data between the unified memory and the processor.

In everyday practical use — documents, browsing, video calls, email, coding, Lightroom, light video editing — the M5 is faster than the M4 but both chips handle these tasks so comfortably that the speed difference is rarely noticeable in normal work. Where the M5 advantage becomes tangible is in tasks that are at or near the M4’s ceiling — larger photo editing batches, more complex video timelines, heavier development builds, and AI-intensive workflows where the Neural Engine is being used heavily.

Wi-Fi 7 is the connectivity upgrade that matters most in real terms. Wi-Fi 7 supports multi-link operation — the laptop can use multiple Wi-Fi bands simultaneously, which improves both speed and stability. In environments with many competing Wi-Fi devices — offices, university campuses, co-working spaces — Wi-Fi 7’s ability to intelligently manage band usage produces more reliable connections than Wi-Fi 6E. For cloud-based workflows, video conferencing, and remote collaboration, a more stable wireless connection directly improves daily productivity.

Bluetooth 6 enables faster device pairing and more reliable connections to Bluetooth peripherals — keyboards, mice, AirPods, and other accessories connect more quickly and stay connected more reliably.

Which M5 Air Variant Is Right for You?

16GB / 512GB at KSh 165,000 (without charger) The right starting point for most buyers. 16GB unified memory handles everything from standard professional work to moderate creative tasks without hitting a ceiling. 512GB base storage is enough for the operating system, applications, and a working project library — most users supplement with external drives or cloud storage for archiving. This is the sweet spot for students, everyday professionals, and anyone whose work is primarily in productivity, coding, and light creative apps.

16GB / 1TB at KSh 193,000 (without charger) The right choice for users who store large files locally — photographers with growing Lightroom libraries, developers with large codebases, and anyone who finds 512GB fills up within a year. The extra 500GB of storage is the only difference from the base model — if you know you need more space, buying it at purchase is cheaper than external storage solutions over time.

24GB / 1TB at KSh 215,000 (without charger) The right choice for power users who run many applications simultaneously, work in larger video projects, or use memory-intensive professional tools. 24GB gives noticeably more headroom for complex workflows and future-proofs the machine more thoroughly for software that will be more demanding in three to five years. For anyone who plans to use this MacBook for five or more years, the 24GB investment makes sense now.

The MacBook Air 13-inch M5 Screen in Real Life

The 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display at 2560 x 1664 pixels and 500 nit brightness is unchanged from the MacBook Air M4 — the same sharp, accurate, True Tone panel. At 500 nits it is bright enough for comfortable indoor use and shaded outdoor work. In direct sunlight it is harder to use than the MacBook Pro 14’s 1,600-nit XDR display — this is the one area where the Air’s display shows its limitation versus the Pro.

For the work the Air is designed for — documents, code, design, video editing at standard brightness, and media consumption — the display is excellent. Colours are accurate within the Wide Colour P3 gamut, True Tone adjusts the white balance to match ambient lighting, and the pixel density at 224 PPI is sharp and comfortable for extended reading and writing sessions.

Battery — 18 Hours That Actually Holds

The 18-hour battery life figure is achievable in real use for mixed professional work — not just video streaming in ideal conditions. The M5’s efficiency architecture keeps power draw low during light tasks, meaning the battery lasts through a full working day of documents, email, browsing, video calls, and occasional heavier tasks without reaching empty.

For students who carry the MacBook Air through a full day of lectures, library work, and evening study — one morning charge covers it all. For professionals who work remotely and cannot always find a power outlet — the 18-hour figure means genuine all-day confidence without the charger.

MacBook Air 13-inch M5 vs MacBook Air M4 — Is KSh 20,000 More Worth It?

Our pick: The KSh 20,000 difference (without charger, from the same storage tier) buys the M5 chip, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and double the base storage from 256GB to 512GB. For a laptop purchase that you plan to use for four to six years, those upgrades — particularly the faster chip and Wi-Fi 7 — are worth the premium. If budget is tight and the M4 Air is available, it remains an excellent laptop. If you are spending KSh 145,000 anyway, adding KSh 20,000 for the M5 is a sensible investment in longer usable lifespan.
